When you want to design your own Li-ion battery
The University of Michigan’s Battery Lab lets researchers try out new ideas in battery chemistry and can also manufacture coin cells, 18650 and 5Ah prismatic pouch cells having the same quality you find in cells coming off industrial production lines. Here, Lab business director Bruno Vanzieleghem holds a roll of battery electrode material from one of the Lab’s pilot manufacturing lines. Besides assembling cells, the Lab also runs battery tests and can make solid-state cells. And if you want to learn how to manufacture a Li-ion battery, you can go through the Lab’s four-day short course.
