Resonetics and Resonant Link are collaborating on integrated power components for medical implants, the two medtech suppliers recently announced.
The partnership will combine Resonetics’ experience in rechargeable batteries with Resonant Link’s wireless charging expertise. Both companies sell off-the-shelf power products as well as custom-designed components for specific applications.
“Resonant Link’s next-generation wireless charging technology strongly complements Resonetics’ implantable battery technology,” Resonetics Chief Technology Officer Kevin Hartke said in a news release. “Combining the technologies will enable lower profile, faster charging implantable bioelectronic devices.”
Resonant Link CEO Grayson Zulauf characterized Resonetics and the former EaglePicher line of medical batteries as “the gold standard for medical device batteries.”
“They have continuously pushed the boundary of what’s possible, delivering the world’s smallest human-implantable battery, and they’re also true partners to their customers in every sense of the word,” Zulauf said in the release. “There’s a lot of cultural and technological alignment between our teams.”
The companies are betting that the trend toward smaller, smarter implants will only accelerate, raising new challenges in miniaturization such as precision manufacturing, data transmission, energy efficiency and power delivery.
Nashua, New Hampshire-based Resonetics focuses on interventional, advanced diagnostics, minimally invasive surgery, and embedded technologies.
Resonant Link is headquartered in South Burlington, Vermont, with anchor offices in Boston and Zurich, Switzerland. The company’s medical device applications include neurostimulators, pumps, pacemakers and other active implantable devices.
